Just started out with a thief/warrior and would appreciate some helpful advice and guidance on what primary/secondary weapons to look out for... I've noticed a couple of people with "hidden daggers" and a mention or two of "sharp spears" on the character element of the website (etc), but wondered what the prefered weapon of destruction  is for a thief on the mud? Thanks in advance..!

I'd say the 'hidden dagger' and, if you can bear with the spam, the 'jewelled dagger'.

The hidden dagger is avg dam of 9 and has a special attack where it has a chance to 'blast' the opponent for a hard hit. The chance for the 'blast' to hit occurs on each successful strike.

The 'jewelled dagger' is a jealous little bitch who won't shut up. However, it is also 9 avg dam and can have 1-2 damroll and 1-2hitroll on it too which increases your primary attacks, and, your dualed attacks once you get those skills.

Your endgame weapon (depending on align) will prolly be the 'bronze tipped spear' if you're evil - enchanted by one of those gnome mages who can get up to 7dam on a weapon. Otherwise, depending on your STR, if you're goodly, the Spear of Aldreas (has attacks like the hidden dagger) or, if your very strong, a gilded fencing sword is a piercing weapon which you can get a mage to enchant I believe.

Back in the day you didn't have a 'poison' spell casting subclass.

curved still better for a lower level thief who may not have poison yet in a second class.

Back in the day they didn't have classes or subclasses. All they had was Jack, and I had backstab, sleep, charm monster, silence, heal, poison, sickness, fumble, and acid splash. Why do you think I fixed the system

Hehe, you still can... with the exception of heal and charm monster (from memory, jacks have charm person I think) all of the above skills/spells are on the jack build.

Just don't dedicate and choose you stats wisely 8)

The blue trident - in astral was a decent weapon as well. Same damage as the styx 3pronged spear.
But those are more end-character weapons.
Starting out would be spears in Glorinsdel, Pazam's Stinger, Mist's Rapier or Silver Arrow.
