Are all stat gains randomly based for each race? I noticed on a certain gnome mage i created that he had tons of stat gains, where as other races I've created don't seem to have that many.

Interesting question, one I've been wondering about recently. It could be complete coincidence as well, but on three seperate dwarven builds, the rate of stat increase and the relative order of stat gains seemed quite similar across the three (e.g. con typically quicker than str initially, even though starting with way more points in str - con came closer to aligning to str levels before both started to kick in again). The only thing I'm certain of is that if you're desperate to get one more stat point to max str, con or wis, you'll end up getting a good old increase in charisma :-)

Stat gains are completely random based on the odds you set. Note though that if you use the advanced stat system during creation that after you assign odds to your stats when the actual creation takes place the odds each get +1 added so that there are never 0 odds for a stat.

Obviously with a completely random system invidividual experiences will vary, they may even seem outright preposterous, and to paraphrase Murphy's Law... when all you want is strength, you're bound to get the least useful... usually charisma ;)

As for when does a roll for a stat occur? Rolls occurr every 1k of gained exp (a little bit different at low low levels). The roll first rolls against your odds for your current level to recieve a stat gain at all, then if you succeed it rolls against your customized odds (or stat order) for which stat should gain. It's worth noting that you can't cheat the system by changing what mobs you kill, nor does killing mobs under 1k exp cheat you. Left over exp is accumulated and added on each kill so that if you have 999 leftover exp points, and you kill a janitor for 2 exp, you will make a roll for gains, and then the leftover 1exp will be accumulated for later.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Rob.

I'm a fan of getting a new char to lvl 6-8 and hoping they got good gains to that point. If they haven't, re-roll and try again. If they are good gains early on, pray like mad they continue. :D

Oh trust me, I NEVER deluded myself on that one. I just think it's more fitting for a quality game. I don't see how an elf should be able to go around calling trolls filthy scum suckers without retribution.
