Post subject:  Ranger Skill - Hawk Scout

Allows a ranger to call a hawk from the sky, and send this hawk to scout the land for a specified target. This hawk will then return to the ranger and tell him where that target resides (probably tell general zone rather than specific room). Hawks can only be called outdoors, and can only find a target that is outdoors.

this skill seems more druid like, unless the ranger has the hawk as a pet i dont think he could scout using a wild one.

I have only recently come back to the game and do not understand the full depth of the new classes or skills...

Having said that, maybe the ranger wouldn't just have to use a hawk. Maybe any animal with the ability to "track" or "hunt" such as bears, foxes, hawks etc.. could be sent out to scout for a mob.

I remember the scorpion was one of the dominating pets and still seems to be, possibly skills such as this would add to the diversity of the befriender.

I could see the skill working as follows:

*use pet scout
Your friend, the little brown fox, scampers off into the forest...

(At this point your pet would dissappear and become unusable. He would be gone for maybe 1 minute.)

Your friend, the little brown fox, returns hinting in the north eastern direction.

or

Your friend, the little brown fox, was not able to catch the trail.

As skill level increases the knowledge learned from the animal would be more exact.

From "Far to the North" to revealing the actual room name, either way the ranger would have to be in the vicinity of the mob.

Rangers already have hunt but could see it being nice for druids who don't have it.
