Since I'm new to this topic, I just had a couple questions that any of you might answer for me.
1. Would rebirthing give someone the opportunity to "re-do" their current character? (ie mage to warrior, that kinda thing)
2. Would a vampire stay as a vampire?
3. Would you be able to change race?
4. Would one retain current equipment?
Thats all folks

I'm new to it too but think there ought to be some limits on class changing. I don't see a transition from a fighting class to magic user overnight.

Things may also be open to abuse as it would be very hard to start a pure cleric but would be very nice to level a troll warrior to 30 mill and change it to a 20 mill gnome cleric.

These were some of my thoughts...

What about single class to dual class with first class as major ie warrior to warrior/2nd - (not 2nd/Warrior)

Dual class to pure in either - Even here a 30 mill Cleric/Warrior or Warrior/Cleric could go to a 20 mill cleric.

jacks to any dual class

any dual class to jack

Option to rebirth as current class?

Final thought - certain pure classes not available as rebirth classes such as cleric, druid, ranger, necromancer,

- possible RP reason that if you wanted to be one of these you would have had to train from childhood.
Practical reason - anyone who has taken time to level one of these from the ground isn't penalized by a maxed stat version being easily available.

As regards races I am more comfortable with all being freely available but if people wanted a limitation, one way of imposing a limitation would be to have

1. Warrior Races - Troll, Orc, Centaur,
2. Non Specialists - Human, Dwarf, Reptile
3. Spell Casting Races Elf, Gnome,

A rebirth could only move by one group allowing the non specialists any race but stopping movement from 1 to 3
Any group 1 race would have the choice of 1 or 2 on rebirth but a troll could not become a group 3 elf or vice versa.

1. Yes
2. No
3. Yes
4. No

Youare being reborn, your penalty is whatever exp hit you take for doing so. If that means you use an easier class to level up then rebirth to a more difficult class, then that's fine-- I don't have a problem with it.

When rebirthing, your exp and possibly some extra stuff will be stored and then you will go through creation as you would in the past with the difference that an option will be made available to rebirth early in the process at which point you will need to input your original password.

I'd like to see restrictions on rebirthing as well. I'm the chief abuser when it comes to using an easy-to-xp race/class to get about 80 million, then rebirthing. It's dedicated BK from zero, then rebirth into what I really want to be.

I don't want to have an opinion without a suggestion so all I can think of that would be easy to implement is restricting your rebirth to the same race as the original. I like most everything Marton posted but I don't know how difficult those would be to implement.

Cheers

Maybe it could be setup so you can only make one lateral move at a time. Such as only being able to change one of the following during a rebirth:
  • - race
  • - class
  • - sub-class
Thus if you were a Troll, warrior-warrior, then to become a Troll bk-warrior would require a single rebirth. But, to become a Troll bk-bk would require 2 rebirths. And to become a gnome mage-mage would require 3 rebirths. Similarly, starting from the same troll warrior-warrior and becoming an orc warrior-warrior would only take one rebirth.

Thoughts?

That sounds good to me! It's hard for me to gauge how difficult a change is to implement. I like the idea of having to use multiple rebirths to completely change your race and class. More penalty for those switches is definitely a good move.

Cheers :)
